Bernard (Pal) Murray
Then...! Now...!
Bernard (Pal) Murray

After graduation I was drafted into the Army in June 67 - went to Oklahoma and Eritrea (East Africa). Came back, enrolled at Cape again to get a teaching degree - taught for 3 years in Perryville - got married in '73 to the love of my life (and she's not reading this over my shoulder) and found out I couldn't afford to be married and teach school.

Came to St. Louis to find fame and fortune - still looking. Worked for Reynolds Aluminum, Consolidated Aluminum and currently Cerro Copper in beautiful Sauget (French word for radioactive dump), IL.

Have two children, Mo - 24 (SEMO grad '01) and Jake - 19 (attending UMSL). While the kids were growing up I was active coaching their sports and supporting all the school activities they did. Now that that crap is over, I have been an usher at Busch Stadium for the Cardinals for 7 years - a part-time job I really enjoy, especially when those SOB's win!

Whenever I see young guys at the stadium with Pike shirts or hats on I give them the secret sign - it's amazing, they all respond in kind - except they look at me like I'm one of the original founders.

It has been really great to read all the messages from the brothers - I hope everyone responds

I went into the Navy after SEMO, and to my surprise, spent 31 years there, retiring in 1998. I took a job with Booz Allen & Hamilton in San Diego. My focus areas are in intelligence/reconnaissance, signals intelligence, cryptology, information warfare and information assurance consulting areas.

Katie Foster and I live here in Coronado. We were married in 1967 and still going strong. We have two kids who are married and living in the D.C. area. We live in Coronado and love it here.

The emails bring back a flood of memories. I can still hear Vito and his band. I received a separate email from Bob Cox and he told me that we have some good Pikes from Bell City in the Chapter at Cape. Bob sounded happy.

Katie and I get back to SEMO fairly often. Her Mom is living at the Chateau assisted care facility there and my Mom is in Bell City, so we try to make it back as often as we can.

Ivan & Katie in Hawaii near beginning of June, 2004

Robert Thomasson
Then...! Now...!
Robert (Bob) Thomasson

I taught school until I had to go to active duty in the guard in 1967. After that I took a programming job in Decatur, IL at A E Staley. They make starch and corn sweetener products. Look at a coke can.

I married a girl I met at work in 1970 and we had 4 wonderful children. However, we divorced in 1989.

I worked for Staley for 31 years, and retiered in 1998 to take a consulting job with IBM's Global Services. I work on SAP implementations in the area of Plant Maintenance and Project Systems. I really enjoy the work, but the travel does get a bit old. Currently I am on a project to replace the Army's material handling system. CSC has the contract and IBM has about 30 consultants on the project.

I don't know if you remember my brother Russell (Rusty). You might have pleged about the same time. He lives in Tucson, AZ. He is a cost accounting manager for General Dynamics.

Gary Cook and Skip Howell are Pikes I have continued to maintain a relationship.

Vito Mangogna
Then...! Now...!

Gerry and I were married in August of 1967. Shortly after that, I was asked to join the Marine Corps, spent a year in Viet Nam. I finally stopped shaking sometime in '74.

When I got out of the Corps, I started selling, got into computer timesharing sales with the help of Gary Smith. I got interested in the technical side, taught myself some programming, eventually wound up managing the technical staff.

Timesharing got pounded when the smaller computers appeared, so I moved on to management in larger software development organizations. In the mid-80's, the company I was working for decided to move to Chicago, and I decided to stay in St. Louis. I was looking for a job when I was offered a six-week contract at Ralston Purina to do some systems analytical work. My six-week gig turned into a life-long business and here I am.

At this point, I have my own little Information Technology consulting business. I specialize in Project Management and Systems Analysis. I do a little software development on the side. I'm working on a web-based system right now.

Gerry and I had two pretty little girls. They're not little any more, but they're still pretty. Gina is a Chemical Engineer, she's 28, just got married May 2002. Gina ran the Chicago marathon a couple of weeks ago. Lisa is a teacher, she's 27 and single – but she has a boyfriend, and it looks serious.

Gerry is a social worker. She was chemical dependency counselor for a drug treatment center for a number of years. I was her most challenging case. These days she's a social worker for a women's domestic violence center.

Gerry and I live in St. Charles, a suburb of St. Louis for you out-of-towners, not far from Carl and Harriet Ward.
