Terry Hale
Then...! Now...!
Terry Hale

I have started my own consulting business. I provide consulting services on employee benfits. Started my own business in June of 2001.

I too, have moved around quite a bit, but usually stayed about 7 years at each stop. I left teaching after a little more than 2 years. Took a job as a labor negotiator for the National Education Association. While with the NEA I was in Columbia, IL, Marion, IL, Delavan, WI, and Rapid City, SD. After the NEA I went to D.C. and managed a Federal Employee Health Plan for the National Treasury Employees Union. Too much pavement for my life style and bad place to raise a daughter. Came to TX in 1989 and have been here almost ever since. In Austin I was the Executive Director for the Texas Municipal League Group Benefits Risk Pool. Managed a self-funded health plan for 350+ cities with 56,000 employees.

Wanda and I got married before our senior year in college. It took a while, but finally had a daughter, Kristine. She is now 27, graduated from UT and then Baylor Law School. After graduaction she clerked for the 11th Court of Appeals and now is an Associate with a Law Firm in College Station, TX. Wanda has been working on and off ever since college as a speech pathologist in the public schools in our various stops . She did not work for the past 2 years, but due to a shortage she went back this September.

Frank Robinson
Then...! Now...!
Frank (Bull) Robinson

After college, I too went into the Army and went to OCS. Mike Sabo and I were together for the first ten month. After OCS, I got married to my high school and college sweetheart, Joanie. Spent time in Fort Hood, Viet Nam, and Fort Leonard Wood. Found out that the army was not my kind of life, so we came back to Perryville and went into the construction business. During the 70's, we worked in many of the towns in southeast Missouri and it seemed like I had a fraternity brother in every town in southeast Missouri.

Joanie and I have lived in Perryville since leaving the army. We have one son, Andy who is 19 years old. He is currently working for our construction business. Joanie worked as a computer programmer at Semo University for a long time and then decided that it was a full time job to take care of me and Andy.

Our life has been rather interesting lately as we have been keeping 5 TIGERS at our farm. They are about 18 months old and weigh about 500 pounds each. They actually belong to DePaul University who is building a college campus called Discovery Ridge Learning Center about 20 miles north of Perryville. When you come back to this area, I would love to "introduce" you to them. It has truly been an experience.

Roy Spiekermann

I was born at a very young age so my mother told me! After that experience [being born] the rest is not important until my college years. Believe it or not I chose SEMO because I was awarded a tuition scholarship to play football [$80 per semester!!], plus in those days you had to work for the athletic dept. to offset the extravagant tuition!...[I should add I am now at a weight that would be suitable to play at the college level or actually professional level, although age, talent and speed would be lacking].

Ray Overmann, Denny Kelly and I went to Cape together...and the rest as thy say is history. My experience at Cape and with the fraternity was one I will never forget. It could be summed up in a kind of "Happy Days" scenario. It was a wonderful time on many levels.

I was married to Tana Austin in June of 1969. Joined the Naval Reserve after college with Dennis Kelly. We joined in Cape and attended weekly Monday night meetings in Cape driving from St. Louis. I worked for McDonnell Douglas at that time [1968]. Went active duty in Aug of '69. Ended up on the staff of CINCPACFLT [commander in chief pacific fleet] Pearl Harbor , HI.

I was at Pearl for 2 years, I had a regular 8-4 job. Tana and I lived outside of Honolulu. We had a great time. I did see the Joe Hammons and Harold Walker. They were there for RR. Joe was stationed on Midway I think and Harold was in Nam.

I worked for McDonnell Douglas [2 years], Falstaff Brewing Corp [1 yr.], Motorola C&E [5 yr.] and for a small company for 17 years, RBX, IND. as Reg. Mgr to VP and officer of the company. We were bought out by the Timken Company in 1996. I have manage to stay employed even though the last three years we have been going through a transition [downsize]. I am currently Reg, Sales Manager and my territory covers from Alabama to Alaska.

I completed a Masters program in 1979 in Management from Webster Univ. with help from my GI bill. Tana [former Dream Girl} just retired from 25 years of teaching. She currently works as a mentor for teachers new or in need of help.

We have two wonderful children[ now 26 and 24]. My daughter Sarah and my son Josh, both graduated from the Univ. of MO. My daughter teaches 1st grade in the Parkway School District. She is in her 4 th year of teaching and is currently working on her Masters degree. She married last summer.[2001 to a Sigma Chi from Mizzou] My son teaches also. He is currently living in the Czech Republic, he teaches English as a second language in Prague.

I have fished and hunted with Dennis in Alaska, played music with Vito for 20 yr., and see Ray Overmann often. We also play golf a couple times a year with the "old" Pikes from Cape.

Dave Langston
Then...! Now...!
Dave Langston

Following graduation in '67, I spent a couple of years teaching school followed by two years in the Army working in a medical clinic in downtown Chicago. I became an expert identifying many of the surprises some of you guys were bringing back from Nam.

After the service, I worked at a St. Louis juvenile court treatment center for about 6 years --trying (with minimal success) to keep the kids there from turning out like Harold Walker and I. I loved that job but eventually decided to turn my attention from emotionally disturbed kids to emotionally disturbed adults—automobile dealers to be specific.

For the past 25 years or so, I've been an Account Executive for Maritz—a St. Louis sales incentive company—leading a team in Detroit that designs sales contests for General Motors and DaimlerChrysler. I moved to the Detroit area (Plymouth, Mi.) 22 years ago. It's been a hell of an experience for a small town kid because it has taken me all over the world including most of Europe, Australia, Antarctica, Africa (lion and Cape buffalo hunting), Russia, Hong Kong, and Israel-- as well as a lot of other off the wall places. (I figure I'm one of the few guys who can say he's been to all 3 of the major Capes—Cape Horn (South America), Cape of Good Hope (South Africa), and Cape Girardeau (north of East Prairie) ).

When I'm home, I spend as much time as possible with two hobbies—Short Wave Radio and Harley Davidson. I'm a General Class Ham Radio operator (KB8RAP) and enjoy putting amateur radios on the air from special locations to commemorate historic events. Every November, I put a team on the air for 2 days from the lighthouse and old Coast Guard Station at Whitefish Point, Michigan, to commemorate the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. We go on the air from the closest land point (17 miles) from where the Fitz went down in 1975.

Three years ago I put 5 stations on the air from the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio, commemorating the WWII Jimmy Doolittle Raid on Tokyo. I had the pleasure of meeting the 28 surviving Raiders during their annual reunion that weekend, and to introduce a number of them on the radio to hams from all over the world.

On the Harley side of life, I ride a '95 Springer Softail and a '93 Sportster. The riding season isn't too long here in Michigan, but we do the best we can. The first week of March every year finds me at either the Iron Horse or Boot Hill Saloons in Daytona Beach-- with 500,000 other "Bike Week" crazies!

My wife, Linda, and I have two boys—Hunter (22) and Brandon (19) who attend Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Hunter is a junior majoring in film and communications, while Brandon is a freshman running back and wide receiver for their currently #1 nationally ranked Division II football team. He's pretty fast (4.5 sec in the 40) and when people ask me where he gets that speed I can only ask them if they've ever run the tunnels at Southeast Missouri State. Oh well, that's another story…
